At the embassy

I was waiting in line to get my visa at the American embassy when I realised what we had here was a room full of stories.

There’s the grandfather who is moving to America where his son is studying a PhD, to help take care of his grandson. There’s the Chinese lady who is here alone to get a visa to travel with her Singaporean family. There’s an employee of Singapore Airlines. And there’s the girl in front of me who’s going there to shadow someone, possibly someone cool. There’s also a lady who has just taken over her family business.

It’s a great place, once we listen for the stories.

I wonder if any of our paths will intersect again, maybe at the airport, or somewhere in the states.
